Using of Ribbons on pillowcase style of dresses

I have noticed that some of you use ribbons on pillowcase style of dresses. Ribbons to use should be real ribbons and not ribbons being used to wrap gifts or presents. I barely have time to sort the dresses I receive let alone making repairs so any dresses that uses ribbons which I think will not last for more than a day will not be included in any of the distributions. Sorry but dresses to be given to these disadvantaged kids should be worth all the time, money and effort else why make a dress.

So please be guided with this ribbon guideline accordingly. Thank you.

Second Dress Collection open for Project Cambodia (Phnom Penh)

I am officially opening today another dress collection for 75 dresses for Project Cambodia(Phnom Penh). The dresses on this collection will require sleeves so no pillowcase style of dresses will be accepted. And as usual materials to use should not be flimsy. Dresses should not be a one-time wear only as this could only be the dress a girl could own so make sure the materials are strong and sturdy enough to withstand the environment of Cambodia.

Sizes should be between 8-12 as these will be distributed to school-aged kids. Maximum number of dresses that can be donated is 5 dresses. Any excess dresses from the first parcel to be sent on the 1st week of July will be allocated to the second parcel.

The campaign will start today and run for the next 6 weeks. All dresses should be in my postbox the 20th of June 2015.

Any questions, please send an email to dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com.

Thank you.

New Dress Collection for Project Philippines c-o Days for Girls Metro Manila (Sizes 1-3 only)

Effective today, I am officially opening a new dress collection project that will be allocated for Project Philippines c-o Days for Girls Metro Manila (Sizes 1-3 only). These dresses will be given to babies and toddlers of recipients of Days for GIrls kits to be coordinated by Days for Girls Metro Manila.

Because these are small sizes and will probably weigh lesser than bigger sizes, a maximum of 10 dresses per donor will be accepted for this particular project. between the sizes of 1 to 3 only. Quality of materials should be strictly followed. Any flimsy materials used will not be included in the distribution.

Any financial assistance for postage will be greatly appreciated. All donations need to have a proper name and email address included in the parcel before it can be included in the distribution. This is to avoid inconveniences.

This project will run starting today for 6 weeks (30-Apr-2015 to 10-June-2015) to allow more time for sorting and packing. Distribution is currently scheduled for end of June 2015.
All parcels should be in Dress A Girl Australia's P.O. Box 240 Casula Mall Casula NSW 2170 by the 10th of June, 2015.

Summary of Updates on Active Dress Collections

Good Day everyone! I did a count this morning as to where I am at dresses for the active Dress Collections and this is where it stands as of today -

Project Vietnam -
Total number of dresses received so far = 51
Due Date : 20th of May

Project Philippines -
Total number of dresses received so far = 54
Due Date : 15th of May

Project Uganda - for 75 dresses
Total number of dresses received so far = 24
Due Date : 31st of May, 2015

Please take note of the deadlines so I can have ample time to sort and do the packing. Just to confirm that for those who wants to donate on all three projects, the total number of dresses that can be donated is 13. Five for Project Vietnam, 5 for Project Philippines and 3 for Project Uganda. If you are selecting only one or 2 projects, please note the number of dresses that can be donated for one or 2 projects only. For Project Vietnam, they need to have sleeves so I dont have to purchase extra t-shirts to go with the dresses. For all projects, dress guidelines need to be followed especially on fabric materials to use. Thank you.

I will be opening up a new collection for the Philippines and Cambodia(Phnom Penh) in the next few days (Mother's Day Drive) so for those who have dresses ready to be donated, please watch out for guidelines. Thank you.

Collection for Dress Distribution #93 - 07/2015 - Project Vietnam is now open

Update to this collection as of 12:16PM - 28th of April 2015.

Total number of dresses received so far = 51
Due Date : 20th of May

Update to this collection as of 8:51PM - 2nd of April 2015.

Please note that if you can see your hand through the fabric material, then that means you are not using the right material to make a dress. The dresses that we make are supposed to make the girl wearing it more decent so please bear this mind when sewing a dress. We should be making dresses that the girls can outgrow and last longer for this could be the only dress they get to own and wear.

Any dresses found to be using flimsy materials and does not meet the quality required will not be included in any of the distributions.

Update to this collection as of 10:23AM - 1st of April 2015.

Questions have been raised as to why I am putting a maximum number of dresses that can be donated. This is because of the financial situation of Dress A Girl Australia. This is the only way I can sustain this campaign. Postage is getting expensive even the prices of the supplies I use to pack are increasing so your understanding is highly appreciated. If you have any issues/concerns, please send an email to dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com Thank you.

Update to this collection as of 8:36AM - 1st of April 2015.

Am opening a collection for Project Vietnam (Dress Distribution #93) starting today, 1-April and will run until the 15th of May, 2015. This will allow more time for myself to  sort and pack before handover to the group in early June.

Dresses are strictly with sleeves between the sizes of 6 and 12 and rules on quality need to be strictly followed. A maximum of 5 dresses or 5 boys clothes (T-shirt&pair of shorts) per donor only. Any financial assistance will be greatly appreciated. All donations need to have a proper name and email address included in the parcel before it can be included in the distribution. This is to avoid inconveniences.

All parcels should be in Dress A Girl Australia's P.O. Box 240 Casula Mall Casula NSW 2170 by the 20th of May, 2015

Collection for Dress Distribution #94 - 06/2015 - Project Philippines - Schoolyear 2015

Update to this collection as of 12:15PM - 28th of April 2015.

Total number of dresses received so far = 54
Due Date : 15th of May

Update to this collection as of 8:51PM - 2nd of April 2015.

Please note that if you can see your hand through the fabric material, then that means you are not using the right material to make a dress. The dresses that we make are supposed to make the girl wearing it more decent so please bear this mind when sewing a dress. We should be making dresses that the girls can outgrow and last longer for this could be the only dress they get to own and wear.

Any dresses found to be using flimsy materials and does not meet the quality required will not be included in any of the distributions.

Update to this collection as of 7:53AM - 2nd of April 2015.

I am starting my second collection for this quarter for 100 dresses for Project Philippines - Schoolyear 2015 for distribution in June-July in time for the opening of the new school year. Each dress contributed to this project will be allocated a fabric school kit which will include a few school supplies that will help a child get started for the new school year until my supplies will last. I have quite a list of public schools but I am only selecting one.

As usual a max of 5 dresses per donor as this parcel will be quite heavy due to the school supplies. As of this writing, there is a 90% chance that I may handcarry these items (especially if there is a long weekend sometime in June) and hand over to Norie Bordador and the group of missionaries who works with her in the distributions to save on shipment.

Because these dresses are for school-aged kids, dress sizes should be between 6 to 12. Quality of material should be strictly followed. No flimsy materials as this is going to be a schooldress. Any financial assistance for postage will be greatly appreciated. All donations need to have a proper name and email address included in the parcel before it can be included in the distribution. This is to avoid inconveniences.

This project will run starting today 1-Apr-2015 up to the 15th of May to allow more time for sorting and packing .

All parcels should be in Dress A Girl Australia's P.O. Box 240 Casula Mall Casula NSW 2170 by the 20th of May, 2015.

For questions and concerns, please send an email to dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com

Collection for Dress Distribution #95 - 07/2015 - Project Uganda Parcel #1

Update to this collection as of 12:12PM - 28th of April 2015.

Total number of dresses received so far = 24
Due Date : 31st of May, 2015

Update to this collection as of 8:51PM - 2nd of April 2015.

Please note that if you can see your hand through the fabric material, then that means you are not using the right material to make a dress. The dresses that we make are supposed to make the girl wearing it more decent so please bear this mind when sewing a dress. We should be making dresses that the girls can outgrow and last longer for this could be the only dress they get to own and wear.

Any dresses found to be using flimsy materials and does not meet the quality required will not be included in any of the distributions.

Update to this collection as of 7:32PM - 2nd of April 2015.

Starting today, as previously indicated, I am opening the third project collection for the quarter.

This album will hold 75 dresses donated to Dress A Girl Australia for allocation to Project Uganda Parcel #1 for July send-off. I still have not decided to which community in Uganda it will be going. I have 4 locations in mind but will decide where once the 75 dresses have been collected.

This project will run starting today 2-Apr-2015 up to the 31st of May to allow more time for sorting and packing before send-off in early July.

All parcels should be in Dress A Girl Australia's P.O. Box 240 Casula Mall Casula NSW 2170 by the 6th of June, 2015

Dress sizes between the sizes 6 to 12 and rules on quality need to be strictly followed. These dresses are washed in hard and rugged environment so quality preferably 100% cotton is required. A maximum of 3 dresses per donor only for this particular collection. Any financial assistance will be greatly appreciated. All donations need to have a proper name and email address included in the parcel before it can be included in the distribution. This is to avoid inconveniences.

Dresses bound for Vanuatu | Rockhampton Morning Bulletin

JOANNE Warkill and Fran Luckey can't wait to see the look on a group of special Vanuatu girls' faces when they are presented with over 100 handmade dresses.

The Rockhampton colleagues have joined forces to help the many children and families in need following the devastation of Cyclone Pam earlier this year.

As part of the "Dress a Girl Around the World" campaign, Ms Luckey and her friends from around Australia made over 100 dresses from pillow cases to donate to students at the SamaSama Rainbow School in Vanuatu.

Ms Warkill visited the school in December 2013 with a group of Australian South Sea Islanders from Rockhampton called the Australian Pikinini Canecutters to instil a sense of belonging and educate the group on their culture and history.

While visiting, MsWarkill said the group, which consisted of 10 children and 10 adults, donated various items including school packs, ports and clothes. They also helped fund a new building at the school as the children were being taught in a chook pen.

The Australian Pikinini Canecutters will travel to Vanuatu again next year and are still fundraising for their trip and to help the Vanuatu people.

If anyone would like to donate funds for the cause, contactMsWarkillon 0408 164 207 or email joanne.warkill@esqld. com.au.

Reminders on fabric materials to use

Just a reminder on the type of fabric materials to use. It should only be cotton. Anything flimsy should not be used. These dresses are being washed in rugged environments and anything other than cotton will not last.

Special Package for Papua New Guinea

Every year I select deserving recipients of special events' presents. Last year I decided to give about 175 handmade Valentines' greeting cards to mothers who receives special meals from NSW Meals on Wheels. A hundred of these cards were made by me and the 75 donated. This year 2015 I thought the lady who spends full time taking care of the orphans of  BFO Orphanage in Mt Hagen Papua New Guinea deserves something special for Mother's Day, the event I have chosen to send something special. The dresses below which were made and donated by Monika Osvald were posted today and fingers crossed will get to Papua New Guinea in time for Mother's Day.
and the postage docket from Australia Post -
Thank you to Monika for the dresses and the skirt. You have just made one mother in this world feel special. Thank you.
