After missing 12 days this month sewing dresses for my one-dress-a day campaign, I am back again and hope to make up for the missing dresses between now and the end of March. I am still hoping that I would be able to make 31 dresses for the 31 days of March. 31 dresses in honour of the memory of my high school classmates who have left this world quite early.

Last night I did 2 dresses from the fabric donations of Linda Smyth and Monika Osvald and tonight I did a t-shirt dress from the fabric and t-shirt donation of Monika Osvald. Here are the 3 dresses -

Donation Acknowledgement FY2012 #151 - Fabrics from Sash Hinton

MBCCD #31 Number 151/31 on the list are these bundles of fabrics from Sash Hinton some of which will make good accessories to go with the dresses. I think I have all the fabrics I need to complete my one-dress a day second attempt.  And if I want to have a room clear of fabrics the only way to do that is to make sure these fabrics are converted into dresses. All I need is the time. :-)  And I think I know what to do with the ones that are small to make into a dress. I can make them into something to sell to raise money for postage. I can make them into small fabric houses or small quilts. Well, we will see how it goes.

One dress a day for 365 days

Today is Day 1 of my second attempt to take on the 'One dress a day for 365 days' journey (or is this a  challenge?) A good time to start as today is also the first day of the new year 2013. For this initiative, I will be sewing dresses daily mostly from donated fabrics. In some days and if I have the time, I may sew more than one but any extras will come from my fabric donations. 

For the first eight days, I will be sewing dresses from donations made by Meredith Kain and the Wright family from Tasmania.  Here is the pile that I have prepared this morning which already has bias tapes, elastics and extra fabric for pockets and waiting to be sewn.

To check progress or status of the journey, click on the '365 diary' tab at the top of the page. I will only be providing updates on this site on a monthly basis. My daily progress will be on the '365 Days diary'. An album containing all dresses sewn will also be available on the left navigation pane under a sub-section '365 days' journey. I sure do hope I will make it through this time. :-) 

Five more dresses to end the year 2012

If there is a will, there is a way and that is just what I did as I wanted to at least end the year sewing a few dresses and pairs of shorts. Five more dresses completed today to end what I would consider a very productive year for Dress A Girl (Around the World) Australia.   All in all, in 3 days I was able to make 11 dresses and 5 pairs of shorts.

Donation Acknowledgement FY2012 #146 - Fabrics from heyboom

MBCCD #26 From heyboom are these six colourful dresses and number 146/#26 on the list. The fabrics were donated by heyboom already cut and all I did was make them into dresses . Three from last night and three were completed tonight. Hopefully these wont be the last sewn dresses for the year 2012. Am aiming for another three tomorrow before I celebrate the new year 2013 with a big bang...welcome the year of living making a difference!

Donation Acknowledgement FY2012 #134 - From Lindisfarne Tasmania

MBCCD #14 Number 134/#14 for the christmas charity drive is a bundle of fabric from the Wright family of Lindisfarne, Tasmania. If my memory serves me right (I need to check my list tomorrow), this is the second donation from the family. Happy to think about the number of dresses that can be made from this bundle. :-)

My contribution to the Christmas Charity Drive

MBCCD #6 It is the last quarter of the year 2012 and here is my contribution to the Make-it or Break-it Christmas Charity Drive. We all know we made it. We have reached the goal of 1500 dresses but we dont stop at 1500. We keep on going. 

Every quarter with all the coins I saved at work I try to find fabrics on sale and buy them with the coins. I may not be able to make them into dresses immediately but I know that anytime I want to sew a dress that will have my name on it as the donor I have the materials needed. 

So for this quarter for $18.50 (I must have drunk a lot of cans of coke as this is all I had in my bucket) and 100% cotton fabrics (yes, am a very good bargain hunter) I was able to buy these bundles and I think I have between 18 to 20 metres on these bundles. And they all have a width of 100 or 120cms. That is a lot of dresses to make. :-)

Well, if I want every little girl in the world to own a pretty dress then these bundles are not enough. Here's looking forward to another bargain hunting next quarter ....next year 2013. Not so sure if I would be able to save that many coins as between now and the end of the year there will be a lot of activities happening to celebrate the Christmas season and a lot of spending but we will never know.

Donation Acknowledgements FY2012 #100 - From Monica Osvald

Lucky #100 is a combo of 7 pairs of shorts, 1 t-shirt, 5 dresses and bundles of fabrics inside a bag which was handed to me by Monica Osvald at the Dreamers Market about 3 weeks ago in Parramatta.
