The heat is on ! Always one step ahead and knowing today was going to be a warm day to go out for lunch, I brought a sandwich instead and saved my $10 and on my way home I stopped by a dollar shop that was still open and bought these 3 pairs of thongs.
So the countdown has started a day early. 3 thongs down .... 97 to go!

Friendly Reminders to everyone
Hi everyone! Welcome to all the new likers and supporters of Dress A Girl (Around the World) Australia. Am a planning geek so here are 2 reminders which I think will help me a lot until the new year -
#1 - September month is about to end and am reminding everyone (especially to those who are asking if there dresses will be distributed in December) that there will be no more new dresses or shorts received that will be allocated for distributions between now and the end of the year. 2013 is fully allocated and all parcels filled up. If ever there is a need to allocate, priority will be given to the dresses I already have. A new schedule of distributions will be released sometime in Jan/Feb of next year (2014).
#2 - I highly recommend not to send dresses to me during the Christmas season (month of December) to avoid the Christmas chaos and inconveniences at the postoffice (i.e. parcels not received etc). I may not be able to pick parcels every weekend in December and sometimes leaving them at the postoffice on the busiest month of the year might cause inconveniences so please take this into consideration when making your sewing plans.
Thanks everyone!

Quilts #63 to 68 - From Linda Smyth
Day 82 and another drop-off of 6 quilts by this lady from Revesby. Only another charity work that she volunteers to and which is going in full swing at this time due to the Christmas season is going to stop her from dropping off items at my place so she is taking a rest from sewing for Dress A Girl (Around the World) Australia but finished off these 6 quilts first.
To Linda, thank you so much for these lovely quilts. I wish we could see the kids who gets to comfort themselves with these quilts and sleep warmly with joy in their cold winter season. But am sure just the thought of it makes us all feel so much joy in our hearts that we are able to make a difference to the lives of these children thus make this cause so worthwhile. Thank you so much for all the help and support you have provided this year. It is so much appreciated and I hope you enjoy every minute you spend with the other charity work (Operation Christmas Child) you do the same way you enjoyed sewing for Dress A Girl (Around the World) Australia. Thank you so much.

Target for number of shorts in 2013 adjusted by another 250
I was not watching the tracking but today I saw that the target of the number of pairs of shorts I wanted to collect for this year has been reached. My target was 500 and as of today I have received 533. Since we are still 3 months away from the end of the year 2013, I have adjusted the target from 500 to 750. I know this number is achievable. My personal target actually is 200 and I have only made 13 so far and am still hoping I will be able to catch up to at least half this number. Am still looking forward to seeing a few kids wearing something I made.
So Good Luck Dress A Girl Australia!

My new sewing boxes...hope it brings me luck
On my way home last Wednesday I decided to stop by my favourite bargain shop (it normally closes at 6pm) since I also wanted to buy my favourite 'Rocky Road' ice cream at the Sara Lee outlet shop which is right next to it. It is when I do unplanned visits to this shop that I find real bargains and real things I like which I can not easily find anywhere and if I do find these things they probably would be very, very expensive.
And my ESP was right again that I will find something. I found these 2 cute sewing boxes for less than 10 bucks (if she had more I could have bought it all. LOL!) And what I love about it is the sewing machine right on top of the box and believe me they are very solid it makes the box a little bit heavy. The slide cover locks and you can only open it if you press the white rubber button on the side (see the small white round thing protruding on the side in between the 2 boxes). Did not hesitate for a moment to buy both. The best 'finding' in a long time.
I hope to apply my 'decoupage' skill (as if.. LOL!) on these two treasures and I hope it brings me luck on my next market day as my money box.

Donation Acknowledgement FY13/09 #132 - 11 dresses and bundle of fabrics from Katherine
Taking advantage of the early hours of my 'off-from-work' day, another morning donation acknowledgement and number 132 on the list is from a very dear supporter of Dress A Girl Australia's campaign to dress disadvantaged girls around the world. In fact one of the very early supporters I think I have lost count of the number of dresses she has sewn not only from her own personal contribution but also on behalf of other donors and small businesses making fabric donations. A parcel of 11 dresses and a bundle of fabrics from Katherine Nott. These are the goodies she has sent this time -
To Katherine, thank you so much for the time and effort you spend making all these dresses. Thank you for your unwavering support, for helping make a difference to the lives of the less fortunate children around the world. It is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Quilt #29 from heyboom
Number 29 on the list on Day 73 of the "100 Days of Quilting" charity drive is from my sister Joan Wolf of heyboom. She used to quilt almost everyday and here is one of her creations she is donating to the drive.
Thank you to my sister for this wonderful quilt which will keep another child in Romania warm during their winter. Thank you so much.

Quilt #'s 27 and #28 - From Annette Norley
Quilts just keep on coming and they are all awesome and priceless. Number 27 and number 28 on my list comes from Annette Norley. Wish I could take a full picture of each quilt that I received but it doesnt look safe to me. I tried to do it last week and I almost fell from the high stool I used to stand and be up there to get a full view of the quilt so I think I will stick to taking pictures the way it is now. Here are the quilts from Annette -
Two quilts to keep two kids warm and feel comfort and joy through the kindness and generosity of Annette. Thank you so much, Annette. Your contributions are very much appreciated.

"No Work" Day
Imagine the number of possibilities you can do in a day when you do not have to go to work and that is just what I did yesterday. Did not do any sorting or packing (not even sewing) for a change but I did go to the postoffice to mail some items (but not the parcel with dresses that needed to be repaired) and since I was already there picked up parcels. When I came back I tried to finish my decoupaged fabric magnets (attached full magnets at the back) which I made from a fabric panel leftover. I decoupaged it to a recycled canvas tarp. Didnt look so bad and I hope I can sell some of them at the market next month. I think they would look good on the fridge.
Then my sister and I were off to Spotlight to check out something and perhaps use the 40% coupon and also decided to stop by Officeworks which was on the way. She wanted to buy labels for her goodies. We must have spent over an hour over there as she could not make up her mind as to which labels to get. Too many labels to choose. I bought a box of micro mini plastic bags for my decoupaged magnets and a box of dispense-a-label which I too could not decide whether to get the small or the large one. At Spotlight, we both did not find what we wanted to get but I decided to buy some fabrics with an 'owl' and 'tree' fabric prints. They were on sale so did not cost that much. I havent done any fabric shopping spree for a while now although I should not really be buying fabrics as I have a half-a-cabinet full of fabrics , untouched for quite some time now (since I started Dress A Girl Australia actually) but am thinking of making tote bags and thought owl prints would be good. I might even end up making decoupaged fabric magnets out of this.
Back home I saw the plastic bag that was filled with threads donated by Jenni Kirillov on behalf of her mum. I didnt like the idea of it in a plastic bag so I took them out and placed them in glass containers I bought from a bargain shop about 5 months ago which I planned to use for terrariums. This is why I love bargain hunting and thrift stores as these 3 containers only cost me $6.50. Two dollars each for the glass pots and $2.50 for the jar with lid. The glass pots were originally priced at $19.95 but the store owner said nobody seemed to like them so she brought them down to $2.00 each and I was the happy recipient of that bargain. Other people would probably put cookies on these containers but I decided to put the threads donated by Jenni. Thank you to Jenni for these donations. It will take me more than a year I think to use all of them.
These jars are now placed next to my 2 jars of button collection. Some of these buttons I bought from trash and treasure shops, some I removed from old clothes, some are spare buttons from new clothes which I have collected all these years. Silly me I even threw away some when I moved house. They are not really collectible buttons but I just like them. I have made magnets out of them and a pendant and I think I will make a bracelet soon. :-)

With these jars sitting on top of my cabinet people will really think I am a professional seamstress. LOL! They dont know I can only make a pillowcase style of dress and a t-shirt dress(now everyone knows) and only for a worthy cause.
Then back to my computer to check out emails, one of the notifications I got was about yesterday, 17th of September being an International Hug Day. I once made a fabric card of a girl giving out a hug. I tried to look for the card but could not find it but am sure it is in one of those craft boxes I have in my garage. I take pictures of all the things I make so I looked for the picture in my hard drive instead and found it. The picture was stamped 28-05-2007.
So I am going to end this blog about my day yesterday (thank you so much for reading) with a big hug to everyone. My share of a big hug to everyone to celebrate International Hug Day.

28 Days away - "100 Days of Quilting" Charity Drive update
Hello everyone! Barely 28 days away and am now halfway to my target of 50 quilts. With the number of emails I have been receiving asking if they can still send a quilt beyond the end date of the "100 Days of Quilting" charity drive, it looks like I will be getting more.
So without further ado, I'd like to let everyone know that 10 of the quilts I will be receiving after the end date of Oct 16 (quilts received during the period of the charity drive 8-Jul-16-Oct 2013 goes to the children of Romania as intended and would love to send a 100 if I can), I will be sharing these to 10 grandmothers of Mbale Uganda. Grandmothers who look after the children and orphans of this community who deserves something special in appreciation of what they are doing...taking care of the kiddies we dressed. If I get more...then I can share more.
So thank you everyone for supporting this charity drive....and keep those quilts coming. They are all awesome!

A gift to celebrate my journey
My best friend at work handed me a small parcel before I left work yesterday but only opened it today and love what I found!!
A replica of a vintage sewing machine...it's got a quilt, pair of scissors and fat quarters....reminds me of the quilt I still have to finish for the "100 days of quilting" charity drive. What a great gift to celebrate my journey to make a difference in this world. Thank you Jen!

Donation Acknowledgement FY13/08 #127 - Bundles of fabrics from Jenni Kirillov
Last night I finally managed to take pictures of all the fabric materials donated by Jenni Kirillov from her mum's fabric stash and this is number 127 on my list. According to Jenni, her mum was an avid dress maker many years ago but due to ill
health has not been able to sew for many years and has asked to find a good home for all her materials. There were bundles and bundles of fabrics, buttons, a bag of threads, laces, zippers but I thought I only take pictures of the fabrics so I can now find a spot to store them well . Here they are -
and very soon I will be back in my 'One-Dress-A-day campaign for 365 days" and I will be making a few dresses for Jenni's mum this year.
To Jenni, please extend my heartfelt thank you to your mum and thank you for dropping the parcels. Took me a while to take pictures of it but finally found the time and made it. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. There will be a lot of kiddies who will be proudly wearing dresses from your mum's fabric donations. Thank you.

Reminder on Fabric Materials to use
Hi everyone, just a reminder about the fabric materials to use when making dresses. Please make sure that they are not thin or flimsy that you can see through the dress. I received a few the past few weeks and I dont think they are wearable. I dont have the time to put lining on them so they will not be distributed.
For everyone's info. Thank you.

So here is the link to the first 25 of 200 dresses between the sizes of 4-6 allocated to the parcel I will be sending next week. More dresses from other donors will be added in the next few days.

Update on Dress Distributions
Here is an update on Dress Distributions for the remaining months of 2013. I have decided that unless the need is very urgent or there will be willing volunteers to handcarry dresses, there will be no sorting/packing tasks in the months of November and December. I have designated these two months as my "rest and relaxation" months. My last market for the year to raise funds will also be in mid-October so the remaining 2 months of the year(Nov and Dec) is really the best time to have a rest (and best time to catch up on my "one dress a day for 365 days" campaign) and the best time to plan for the new year 2014.
Distributions will resume in Feb/March 2014. So if you dont see your names listed in any of the dress distribution articles between now and mid-November, your dresses will be distributed next year.
For everyone's info. Thank you.

Second to the last parcel for the month of August and number 125 on the list is a parcel of 20 dresses from Mo O'Brien. Twenty dresses for twenty lucky girls. Thank you Mo. Thank you for your unwavering support of Dress A Girl Australia's campaign to dress disadvantaged girls around the world. It is very much appreciated. Thank you.

If you are wondering why I am collecting quilts? This is to keep kiddies warm during the winter season in Romania. Am running a "100 days of Quilting" charity drive which will end next month on the 16th of October and want to collect as many quilts as possible. If you are a new quilter or wants to learn a new skill and at the same time enjoy the experience, there is a quilt-a-long going on with Margie Burke. Here is the link to the quilt-a-long -

Quilt #18, 19 20...here they are and I should be ready to pack parcel 3. And by the way, I forgot about Parcel 2 which I was supposed to send yesterday morning. It was covered by parcels from the last weekend. I have now put it right on top of a bench where I can see it everyday until I take it with me to the next postoffice trip.
Thank you Linda for your kindness and generosity, to help keep kiddies warm this winter. It is so much appreciated. Thank you.
