Donation Acknowledgement FY13/04 #46 - From Wendy

The day is almost over (perhaps over when you read this :-))and this is only the third acknowledgement I have made so far on the second day of the 4-day weekend so that means I have only 2 more days to go. Looks like it is not going to be a very productive weekend....but a lazy weekend. :-)
Anyway, donation #44 on the list comes from Wendy Yates. A parcel of 12 peasant dresses, 12 girls undies(note that is 1 undie for every dress...amazing!) and 10 boys' shorts.
Wendy has joined the Bobkin Sewciety group on facebook. Although she has already been sending dresses and undies to Dress A Girl Australia, this is the first batch of dresses she is comtributing as part of the Bobkin Sewciety's Dress A Girl Dress Drive. She feels very excited and finds it heartwarmng to see such community spirit.

Thank you so much Wendy for your unwavering support of this campaign. It is much appreciated. Thank you.

When it rains...it's pairs of shorts

Yesterday's rain gave me the chance to make pairs of shorts but only limited to two pairs because I still have not bought the elastic I needed. The elastic I used in these two pairs I got from a 2-dollar shop and they only had 1 pack left for the size that I wanted good for about six pairs. I also needed to do some advamced cuttimg.
Here are the pairs I made yesterday - there are about 5 more from this particular fabric waiting to be sewn - fabric donated by yours truly.
This brings my total to 8 out of a personal goal of 200 for this year. Still a very, very long way to go.

Donation Acknowledgement FY13/02 #13 - Dresses and more goodies from the Ladies of Kapunda S.A.

Number 13 on the list are lots of goodies from the Ladies of Kapunda S.A. So many that I hope I get them right. :-)
Let me start with the dresses from Mary Lauke, Sally Giles and Julie Quast -
A pack of girls and boys undies from Deborah Parish and Lyn Crossley
Also from Lyn Crossley are boys' t-shirts and trousers -
and boys' shorts from Virginia Schrapelli and Valda Sutch who is nearly 80 years old! Wow! - this is one good thing about the Dress A Girl Around the World campaign, it is for the young and the young at heart. Age is never considered a hindrance to its success - in fact it is good for the mind, body and spirit regardless of age. Thank you Betty Barrett
From the fabric donations of Lyn Crossley, the 'Fusion' op shop and Valda Sutch, the group has now collected over 55 dresses, 11 pairs of shorts and handmade boys t-shirts which will contribute a lot to an upcoming collaboration event with the Kapunda Quilters.

To all the ladies of Kapunda, South Australia, thank you so much for your continued support of this campaign, thank you for your kindness and generosity. It is very much appreciated. You have made a lot of disadvantaged children happy. Thank you.

Also, a special thanks to Virginia Schrapelli for helping send these items to Sydney. Thanks a lot everyone.

Donation Acknowledgement FY13/02 #12 - Another parcel from Sarah

Number 12 is a parcel of 2 dresses, 9 pairs of shorts and a t-shirt from Sarah Tanmahapran of Victoria. Sarah had a great feeling of pleasure sewing these items. She has a 4-year old daughter who helps her by trying on the dresses she makes for measurements and pattern cutting and gives her feedback on the garments. What a cutie! She knows why her mum is making dresses for the less fortunate children and that is probably why she is very enthusiastic in making a feedback. It is a pleasure for the little girl as well to help her mum knowing where the dresses are going.
Here are the dresses, pairs of shorts and t-shirt that Sarah sent to me this month -
Sarah, thank you so much for the items and give your little girl a hug for me. The garments are attractive. Thank you.

It is always nice to know what the story is behind the dresses you make, why you make them so please write a small note and insert it in the parcel. I love and enjoy reading notes and writing them in the article too. And I keep all those small notes too so please feel free to write. Thank you.

Donation Acknowledgement FY13/02 #11 - another parcel this time from Frances

I better hurry up in acknowledging donations before I get drowned with parcels to open. And yes, Number 11 on the list is another parcel of 22 dresses and 2 pairs of shorts from Frances Cornish of ACT. 17 of these dresses were pre-cut by good friend Keryn Thompson and sewn by Frances. What a great combination!
Here are the 22 dresses which by the way, thank you for the pictures Frances!
and here are the two pairs of shorts -
Thank you Frances for your kindness and generosity and thank you to Keryn Thompson for cutting the fabrics. Your time and efforts are very much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Five pairs of shorts from a fabric donation from Tasmania

I was starting to feel bored after finishing my dress for the day this morning. I could not go anywhere because it was raining. So I thought of making just one pair of shorts in case the rain would stop but instead I ended up making 5 pairs. These pairs have been made from the fabric donation of Louise Wright of Tasmania.
I probably could have done more if I did not run out of elastic. :-)

Thank you Louise Wright for the fabric donation. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Much appreciated.

First pair of shorts for 2013

This is the very first pair of shorts I made for the year 2013. I did this tonight in addition to the dress I made for the One-dress-a-day for 365 days' journey. I was thinking if I were to increase my personal goal for the number of shorts I have to make this year, I better start this early. Currently I have set my personal goal at 200 which is double that of last year. It does not look or sound very realistic but I have to set it at a high number to drive me to make more.
If you want to see the progress of my One-dress-a-day for 365 days' journey, after 4 days am still on track. :-) Check out my daily progress by clicking on the '365 Days Diary' tab which you can find at the top of this page or you can click here. Here's hoping that I can at least reach middle of the year as this is my second attempt to take on this journey.

Donation Acknowledgement FY2012 #145 - from Frances of ACT

MBCCD #25 Nineteen pairs of shorts and 10 dresses from Frances Cornish with the combined effort of good friend Keryn Thompson is number 145/#25 on the list. Frances did all the sewing for the shorts but Keryn did all the fabric cutting for both the shorts and the dresses since she didnt have access to a sewing machine. Keryn then house-sat for Frances when she went for a holiday overseas and this gave Keryn a chance to use Frances' sewing machine and sewed most of the dresses. Another great example of teamwork and craftivism. They both love to work for a good cause and at the same time make use of a loved skill of sewing. Always love to hear the word craftivism.

Here are the nineteen pairs of shorts and 10 dresses -
To Frances and Keryn, what a combination and loved the sharing you did making the dresses and pairs of shorts to share with the less fortunate children. Living, loving and sharing. That's what makes our world so wonderful to live in. Thank you so much.
