Donation Acknowledgement FY13/08 #106 - 31 Girl's t-shirts from heyboom

Number 106 on the list is from my sister heyboom. 31 t-shirts for girls that I am going to use to make into t-shirt dresses. I still have about a dozen left from the previous batch and now I have another 31 for my one dress a day for 365 days journey which by the way I have a lot of catching up to do. I hope to restart my sewing when I finish my sorting and packing for Abim Uganda.

Donation Acknowledgements FY2012 #82 - 50 T-shirts from my sister

The t-shirts have finally arrived! All 50 of them from my sister Joan of Heyboomshop is donation #82. This is going to keep me busy for the next few months making t-shirt dresses as I need to keep in stock dresses with sleeves for locations whose culture does not allow open neck styles. When Joan knew that PNG needs dresses with sleeves and after having seen some of the t-shirt dresses I made which were worn by the children in India, she decided to buy t-shirts and most likely these dresses will be going to PNG.

Just the thought of the 50 girls who will be wearing these t-shirt dresses is more than enough to motivate me to start sewing for I know the end result would be very rewarding. And I think I now have an idea as to where to get the t-shirts I want to start collecting for the small boys in Mt Hagen. :-) 

Joan, thank you so much for the t-shirts and thank you to my brother-in-law Andre for handcarrying them to Sydney. Thank you. Much appreciated.

FY12/Week 18 - Dresses completed during the week 30-Apr-6-May-12 by Dress A Girl Australia

In addition to the 10 dresses I completed during the weekend, I have been sewing one T-shirt dress a day since the start of the week from Monday(30/4) to Friday (4/5) which brings the total number of dresses I made for the week ending 6th of May to 15. What a record and I am not even sure if I can repeat this productivity.
These dresses are all donated and sewn by me.

And all these dresses will be included in my collection for the children of Papua New Guinea.

T-shirt Dresses from donated fabrics FY12 #11 - From Meredith Kain

Nothing goes to waste with Dress A Girl Australia. I think I was too productive this weekend. I was able to make 6 Size 6 and 4 Size 2 dresses.

The fabric materials in the skirt section of all these T-shirt dresses are remnants from the fabrics pre-cut by my sister to make into dresses last month from fabric donations made by Meredith Kain. The T-shirts are the last remaining t-shirts donated by i-craft i-sew. By the time I got to Dress No 8, I got tired of ruffles I decided to do pleats in the last 2 instead. All these dresses will go to my collection for the children of Papua New Guinea and I think they will all look cute in these dresses.

Collection for the children of Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea

I have just received confirmation that the girls in Papua New Guinea requires shoulders to be covered so dresses have to have at least cap sleeves. This is not going to change my travel plans. I have about 10 dresses left with sleeves and I will try to raise as many T-shirt dresses or dresses with sleeves or T-shirts which they can wear underneath pillowcase dresses as I can between now and mid-June. What is changing are the dresses that I would like, if possible , only if possible to receive from any ladies out there who would like to donate to please donate a dress with sleeve or plain T-shirts with sleeves between the sizes of 4 or 5 to 12, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance.

Starting today I am starting an album for the children of Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea which will hold all dresses with sleeves that I will be handcarrying at the end of June. I believe there are about 135 children in this orphanage but will be asking for confirmation as to how many are girls and how many are boys as I also want to bring something for the boys.

I will be aiming to sew at least one T-shirt dress or dress with sleeve a day for the next 6-7 weeks. And if I can really stick to this plan, that would be about 45 dresses. How awesome would that be(I hope!). And am very optimistic that I will be receiving dresses with sleeves in the coming weeks.

I am glad that Dress A Girl Australia has been given the opportunity to provide dresses to these children and I look forward to meeting and dressing each one of them.

FY12/Week 16&17 - Dresses completed for 2 weeks by Dress A Girl Australia

I wasnt "sewing productive" this time. Here are the dresses and pairs of shorts I have completed the past two weeks. Three dresses and six pairs of shorts only for 14 days. The public holiday in the middle of the week last week wasnt of much help.

The five pairs of shorts are the last of the pre-cut fabrics for this particular material. I contributed an additional three T-shirt dresses to the Dress A Girl with Hopeful Threads which brings my total to six, two more than I had originally planned to make. I wish I could have made more but the pairs of shorts were more of a priority for my time in case I got short with my allocation for India. Fortunately I received all the pledged donations and received more than I expected. The fabrics used for the skirt section of the Tshirt dresses came from fabrics donated by Claudine Long. The fabric for the pillowcase dress came from my personal collection. T-shirts were donated by i-craft i-sew.

In case some of you are wondering why I am sewing dresses and pairs of shorts regularly, I am collecting dresses and shorts for the disadvantaged children around the world, to let each of them own at least one dress for they deserve to own at least one.

Donation Acknowledgements FY2012 #33 - More t-shirts from 'i-craft i-sew'

After a 7-day hiatus on donation acknowledgements, it is time to say thank you once again to supporters of Dress A Girl Australia's cause. First on a quite a list is 'i-craft i-sew' who once again is donating T-shirts to be made into T-shirt dresses. This time although they are broken sizes (probably the reason why they were cheap according to the donor) they are aimed for six children between the ages of 10 to 12. With the number of fabric remnants from donated fabrics pre-cut for pillowcase dresses, these T-shirts will be very well provided.

To i-craft i-sew, thank you so much for your unwavering support to the cause of Dress A Girl Around the World - Dress A Girl Sydney and Australia. It is very much appreciated. You have by now made a lot of girls smile for the opportunity to own a T-shirt dress which some of them probably never dreamed they will own one. Thank you.

FY12/Week 15 - Dresses completed for the week by Dress A Girl Australia

Here are the dresses and pairs of shorts I have completed during the week. The Monday of the long Easter weekend helped me make 4 T-shirt dresses, 2 pillowcase dresses and 2 pairs of shorts.

The pillowcase dresses and 2 pairs of shorts are from fabrics I bought from a sale. When I saw this fabric two weeks ago, two words came to mind. Uganda and Africa. With the colour combination of the material, I thought it would look great on little girls in Africa and/or Uganda I had to buy it. I bought the last five metres available for $12.00 and looking at what I have sewn I have no regrets. Not everyone may like the bright colours but hey, making dresses are supposed to be fun and colours help too and I love it!

The T-shirt dresses are a combination of donations from 'i-craft i-sew' who donated a couple of dozens of T-shirts and the materials for the skirts are from fabrics I received from anonymous donors also from last year. They are remnants from fabrics that were pre-cut into pillowcase dress kits by my sister earlier in the month. With Dress A Girl Australia, nothing goes to waste.

I had included the pillowcase dresses in Hopeful Threads' "April 2012 Dress A Girl with Hopeful Threads" global project of 100 dresses since the fabric is a new donation to Dress A Girl Australia and would add value to the project since the 2 dresses have not been included in any count at all nor included in any forecasted or projected number of dresses to be included in a collection. 

As usual no how-to's but just information as to what I have accomplished during the last week. Thank you to 'i-craft i-sew' for the T-shirts and the 2011 anonymous donors for the fabric materials.
