Donation Acknowledgements FY2012 #81 - 18 dresses from Deborah and Loris

Number 81 on the list are 18 dresses from Deborah and Loris, two friends from Kapunda and Tonunda, South Australia who are enjoying making dresses. 14 of the dresses are from Deborah and in addition to the 14 pairs of shorts(#80) are 4 dresses from Loris. Amazing ladies!! If I can only bring my sewing machine at work, I probably would be doing the same thing, sewing dresses whenever I can.
Thank you very, very much for the support you are providing to this cause. You inspire a lot of people with what you are doing. There never seems to be a dull moment between the two of you. :-) Thank you for doing such a great job spreading the word in your local community. It is much, much appreciated.

Any ladies out there in the vicinity of Kapunda, Tonunda,  Adelaide, Eudenda, Rhynie and other nearby towns who wants to join the campaign of dressing girls around the world, or if you have any fabrics to donate please feel free to connect to either of these two ladies. You will not regret it. To get in touch with Deborah, click here or Loris, click here. Or you can send an email to dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com.

Donation Acknowledgements FY2012 #80 - 14 pairs of Shorts from Loris

Woohoo!!  I've got more pairs and number 80 on the list are 14 pairs of shorts in different sizes from Loris Pullen of Tanunda, South Australia. Loris is a member of the Ladies of Kapunda, S.A. who enjoys sewing with good friend Deborah Parish. After so many years of searching, she thinks she finally found what she wants to do to make a difference and enjoying every minute of it.
Here are the 14 pairs and some of these pairs would be included in the Myanmar Burma collection -
To Loris, thank you so much for all the pairs of shorts. I do believe too that the boys deserve something just like the girls and this made me decide to run a campaign for the boys early this year. Thank you for your unwavering support. Much appreciated.

Donation Acknowledgements FY2012 #79 - 22 dresses & 7 pairs of Shorts from Frances

Yes, 22 dresses and 7 pairs of shorts is donation #79 from Frances Cornish of Canberra. 11 of these dresses have been made specially for the children of Myanmar Burma.
I also thought this would be a good time to share with all of you and make a special mention that Frances is actively spreading the word around in Canberra about the Dress A Girl Around the World campaign and is getting a lot of support from both family and friends. Just recently, she was able to collect 6 large garbage bags of fabrics from a lady whose mother died recently and am sure this is going to keep her very busy in the days to come. She has also approached the owners of  the gym where she goes to and they have agreed and very happy to advertise the Dress A Girl Around the World campaign on their notice board and a small feature regarding the campaign in their monthly newsletter which is such a great news. By the way, she and another great campaigner from Canberra, Katherine Nott have connected and already met in person.
This is Frances -
and here is the article she wrote about the campaign to be published in the newsletter of the Curves Gym where she goes to
and the campaign flyer she created that would be posted in the gym's noticeboard
Frances, thank you so much for the dresses and the pairs of shorts you have donated and your unwavering support of the campaign and in helping spread the word around. Please feel free anytime to get in touch with me if you need some assistance or more information. Thank you so much!

For those in the Canberra area who wants to get in touch or connect with Frances, click here.

Status of Myanmar Burma Collection

Its only the 17th of July today and the collection I have for the children of Myanmar Burma is almost filled up. Just want to share with you where the collection is at.... and I think I just want to use my new blackboard too. :-)

As mentioned last week the dresses have already been taken and the pairs of shorts needed to be attended to. With the 14 pairs I received from Loris of the Ladies of Kapundah Sewing Bee group, 11 has already been taken plus 1 from Sharyn Paull. I checked my shorts inventory last night and the second to the last parcel I received from Sharyn  actually had a size 10. So all I need are 10 more pairs : Size 8 (2); Size 10/12 (6); and Size 14/16 (2). Check out what I have written on the board with hearts in every corner. :-)
So if there is anyone out there who is thinking of sewing pairs and would like to donate for the Myanmar Burma collection, please be guided by what is written on the board above but please don't let this stop you from donating any size you want. There are still a lot of disadvantaged boys out there who needs new pair of shorts so any size will be received with open arms and much appreciated.

If you are not into sewing but you know someone who might like to make a difference in this world by sewing dresses or pairs of shorts for the disadvantaged children in many locations around the world, please help spread the word.

Please feel free to send me an email at dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com if you have any questions or wondering why I am collecting pairs of shorts for Myanmar Burma.

A new collection for Myanmar Burma

Am starting a new collection of 13 dresses and 22 pairs of shorts for the children of the Hosanna Children's Home in Myanmar, Burma. This parcel will be handcarried by a mission team from Victoria in September.

Since Burma is a very conservative country, I would have needed dresses with sleeves such as a t-shirt dress or a peasant dress and it did not take me that long to find a donor. My heartfelt thanks goes to Frances Cornish who generously offered to make the 13 dresses. She actually already had 6 dresses made and has happily agreed to make 7 more. Thank you Frances! Thank you for helping 13 girls in Myanmar Burma own one pretty dress each. Much appreciated.

Now as to the pairs of shorts, I will need to check my shorts inventory if I have anything that will meet the requirements for the 22 boys. If I can remember it right, I probably would have a few that is between the sizes of 3 to 8 but I dont believe I would have sizes between 10 to 16. (I think I need to start looking for a pattern for bigger sizes)

Thought I'd share with you what I would be needing for the pairs of shorts below in case there is anyone out there who would like to help make some and donate to Dress A Girl Australia-
Between the sizes of 6 to 8 I would  need 6 pairs
Between the sizes of 10 to 12 I would need 8 pairs
and for sizes between 14 to 16 I would be needing 5 pairs.

I actually have lots of pre-cuts (and I mean lots of it!) for sizes between 6 to 8 since this is the size of the pattern I have so I think I will be making these sizes. It is only mid-July so I still have about 6 weeks to make them and am sure I will be able to find the time within these 6 weeks.

If you want to join me on this campaign of making dresses and pairs of shorts for the disadvantaged children around the world, what better way to start by sewing pairs of shorts for the children of Myanmar Burma. If this is the kind of volunteer work you want to do to make a difference in this world even with just one pair of shorts, please feel free to contact me at dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com. Would love to hear from anyone. Would love your help to spread the word around. Thanks in advance!
