Last Donation on behalf of the winning bidders(Charity Auction-November 2012) Batch 4

Wow! This is actually a big surprise and the girl who is going to receive and wear this dress is probably the luckiest girl in the world for this dress has been lost and now is found. Dress was donated by Christie Sturre of Joyfoolery on behalf of Rachel Platt a winning bidder of the Charity Auction held last November 2012.
This dress has been reported in the postoffice as lost but after almost 6 months it found its way last week to my postal box. Whatever happened to it between November of last year until last week does not matter but what matters is it has been found and is going to dress another girl around the world.

Thank you to Christie for donating the dress on behalf of  Rachel Platt and whoever found this parcel and sent it to its rightful owner thank you. Much appreciated.

Donations on behalf of the winning bidders(Charity Auction) Batch 2

This is the second batch of dresses donated on behalf of the winning bidders in the first Charity Auction for Dress A Girl Australia last Nov 2-7, 2012. Sorting and identifying which bidder donated which dresses was easy as I actually made all these dresses and pairs of shorts specifically for the charity auction. In fact, I had one extra dress with no item to go with so have decided that I will be giving the dress as an additional donation on behalf of my mum who made a bid for 2 dresses.

This second batch of dresses and pairs of shorts are for the following donors and bidders -
1) Donor - Doris Beatty               Winner - my mum Jolly Nelly Sun
My mum donated the dresses she bid for to Dress A Girl Australia
Dresses donated on behalf of my mum
Extra dress donated on behalf of my mum

2) Donor - Kikay Designs                Winner - Amy Richens

3) Donor - Soft Treasures             Winner - Dreamers Market

4) Donor - Soft Treasures              Winner - Fabi Sun

5) Donor - Linda Smyth                 Winner - Jo Kelly

6) Donor - Dress A Girl Australia       Winner - Rachel Platt

7) Donor - Doris Beatty                     Winner - Rafaelita Joan Wolf

8) Donor - Deborah Parish                Winner - Rose Preston
The last batch of dresses and donors and winners will be coming up very soon. Thank you to all the donors and the winning bidders. Thank you for your support.

Today's 'A bit of this and a bit of that'

Good Morning everyone! Hope you all are starting to have a good weekend. A few things to share with you this Saturday morning. I have numbered them down on my piece of paper so I thought I would also do so on this space. :-)

1) Regarding the Christmas cards. In reply to an enquiry about postage, to send via international airmail to the US for a pack of 10 Christmas cards it will cost AUD$6.20 and to send to New Zealand will cost AUD$4.50. I think for the US it will take between 7 to 10 working days depending on where you live and for New Zealand between 3 to 7 working days.

This is still a good buy at an average cost of AUD$1.75 per card and is for a good cause if you believe in what I believe in. Dress A Girl Australia belongs to an imagined fifth sector of 'no-profit do-good' economy. :-)  To purchase the cards, you can either send me a message (via Contact Me) or send me an email at dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com or click here or click on the image below :

2) 'Make-it or Break-it' Christmas Charity Drive. This is the second month running. Have you decided on whether you are joining Dress A Girl Australia in this journey of helping the less fortunate children around the world? Now would be the best time to share the spirit of Christmas and not just to anyone but to the disadvantaged children. Let us include them even for just one dress when we start to think of how to be merry and bright this Christmas season.
Join in the fun this Christmas. You do not have to know how to sew. Anyone can help even by donating fabrics and/or fabric accessories such as threads, elastics, buttons, ribbons, bias tapes etc. We will make the dresses on your behalf.

3) Charity Auction for Dress A Girl Australia. Do not forget to drop by at the Charity Auction for Dress A Girl in case you are looking for something nice to give to someone this Christmas. The bidding for the items has started and will be running until Wednesday, 7pm, the 7th of November. Perfect place to browse and perhaps shop. All goodies are real handmades, real treasures carefully handcrafted and donated for this purpose. If you love handmade markets, this is the easy way to find real handmades. No need to drive around looking for a parking spot. Here is the link and please help spread the word.

Last but not the least, have a great weekend. Thanks everyone!

Wishful Thinking

Last night while watching TV I was thinking maybe I should sew while watching TV. You see sometimes I am reading while watching TV so why not sew. I have this wish of being able to sew at least one dress and one pair of shorts everyday after work. It should not take long perhaps 2 hours max is what I need to accomplish it and I usually watch two hours of TV every night. And if I start now by the end of the year I would have made at least 100 dresses and 100 pairs of shorts.

So I started last night and the best I could do was one pair of shorts. After that I felt sleepy. Tonight I tried again and the same thing happened. I think my brain was too tired to think of how to insert an elastic inside the casing as I have been doing a lot of thinking at work the past few days. I only manage to make another pair. Well at least I have made 2 pairs. Let us see what is going to happen tomorrow night. Here are the 2 pairs I was able to make -

I would be using these two pairs to match dresses donated for charity auction. So whoever bids and wins, will be able to donate at least one dress from the person who donated the dress she bid for and  I match it with one pair of shorts. And finally, I no longer have this fabric material. LOL! It has all been made into or at least 10 pairs of shorts.

Sewing for Charity Auction

In case some of you have not heard yet, there is going to be a charity auction for Dress A Girl Australia early November for about 5 days. I have been sewing this weekend for the dress matching I am donating for every item to be auctioned. The donor will be making 2 dresses. One to be auctioned and the other to be donated to Dress A Girl Australia under the winning bidders name. I will be matching the item to be donated to Dress A Girl Australia with either a dress or a pair of shorts so the winning bidder actually will be donating  2 items under their name. I started sewing on Friday night and ended my sewing today.
Here are the items I made last Friday, 21-Sep-12 -
Items made Saturday, 22-Sep-12
and the items I made today, 23-Sep-12
I will be making more just in case there are still items to be donated but I dont see myself making them next week. Next week will be a very busy week for me at work and I dont even think I will have a chance to say hi to my sewing machine during these days.

More details of the upcoming charity auction event will be made available as soon as the details are finalized. If you want to donate something to be auctioned, please send an email to dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com.

Dresses on display at a Boutique Op Shop in Katoomba

She wants to help raise funds for postage and so this thoughtful lady Monica Osvald decided to make a couple of dresses to sell. She spoke to the lady-in-charge of the Steven Walter Children's Cancer Foundation which is a boutique op shop in Katoomba where she goes to and sometimes gets some of her sewing materials. The op shop happily agreed to put her two dresses on display at the counter for anyone to see and purchase and even wrote something about the cause of dressing girls around the world to make it more attractive to prospective buyers.

Here are the two dresses on display at the Steven Walter Children's Cancer Foundation Boutique Op shop which is located at 142 Katoomba Street, Katoomba (Uniting Church Hall). The op shop is open from Monday to Friday (9-5) and Saturday (10-2)

If you have any friends and/or relatives living around the Katoomba area who might be interested or looking for a dress for someone, please let them know about these 2 dresses on display in the op shop.

Thank you to Monica for the dresses and for thinking about this idea and thank you to the Children's cancer foundation op shop in Katoomba for allowing her to display these 2 pretty dresses. Thank you for your kindness and thank you to everyone who find it in their hearts to support this cause. It is much appreciated.

What kept me busy Part 2

Yesterday I wrote about what tasks I needed to do during the day. Well, as expected the task of cleaning never happened but sewing did. LOL! I thought I needed to start making the dresses and/or pairs of shorts for auction. I wanted to match a dress or pair of shorts for every item that was donated for auction. Each auction item comes with a matching dress or a pair of shorts to be donated to Dress A Girl and whoever wins the bid will have her name as the donor of the matching item. So instead of just donating one item, two items will be donated by the winning bidder.

When I started Dress A Girl Australia last year I was able to collect quite a lot of pillowcases. Whenever I saw a sale sign I would go and get some. Well, its time for some of those pillowcases to be used so I made 5 dresses today. I also was able to make 2 pairs of shorts.
If you want to know which donated item to be auctioned is going to be matched with any of these 5 dresses and 2 pairs of shorts, then be ready to join the auction event sometime late October or early November. You may like something and bid for it. More details will be announced soon.

Christmas Advent Calendars found

When doing my last minute preparation last Friday night for the market I found 2 Christmas advent calendar quilts wrapped in plastic inside this heavy bench and had the year 2005 written in a small piece of paper taped to the plastic. I usually make advent calendars and try to sell them off every year. I must have made these 2 calendars in 2005 and forgot about it thinking that they were already sold. They are 7 years old. :-)

Tonight I have decided to donate these 2 items for the Charity auction for Dress A Girl and keeping my fingers crossed it will attract a good price. Also found 3 other wallhangings which I made about 12 years ago but still deciding whether to sell it or not at this time. :-) My good old bench. Comes up with surprises when needed the most. :-)

If there is anyone out there who loves Christmas Advent calendars, watch out for these 2 items as they will be auctioned sometime in early November. Will keep you posted.

For more information on the auction, please send an email to dressagirlaustralia@gmail.com.

Charity Auction for Dress A Girl Group in Facebook

Hi Everyone,

This has been in the planning for sometime and is now a reality and many thanks to Katherine Nott.

We have created a group called Charity Auction for Dress A Girl where anyone can make dresses, chat about it in the group and to be auctioned at a time to be agreed when it is finished. The funds raised from the auction will be used for postage in sending dresses including dresses anywhere within Australia to Sydney. This will be a big help especially to those who send dresses in bulks. And if the group can raise more funds, then it would be used to make more dresses.

For more details on this group, here is the link and be a member. It's free and we would love to hear everyone's ideas and hope to put in more fun in helping disadvantaged children around the world.

If you are in facebook, please check this out. If you are not in facebook, don't lose hope. Any activities and/or important updates happening in the group will be posted on this site so everyone gets updated.
