10 dresses for Thursday (27-Nov) and Friday (28-Nov)

I think I am ready for the Dress Sponsorship program which starts on giing tuesday this coming Tuesday, 2nd of December. I made 10 dresses the past two days which are open for sponsorship. For a $10 sponsorship, each of these dresses will be paired with an undie, magic slate, mini teddy bear, hair tie, a lolly and a 'special person' button. I have not decided yet as to how to pack these items but most likely I will be using the remaining unsold christmas stockings I have in my Dress A Girl online shop and if I need more I think I still have some small bags left from the Christmas bags. Am pretty sure the recipients of these dresses have not received any present yet wrapped in a large socks. It probably would be a first of everything.
I hope to make another batch of 10 dresses this weekend and another 10 in readiness for giing tuesday and am keeping my fingers crossed that this time I will be successful in this fundraising as I have always been a failure in my attempts. I always ended up picking up the tab. What to do. And I want to be happy too just like the girls who will be happy when they receive these packs. (LOL!)

So don't forget giing tuesday and help spread the word around especially for those who do not sew and are looking for opportunities to make a difference starting this tuesday and in 2015.

Feedback Distribution from Project Hope Burma

The following pictures are from the dress distribution made in Burma by the Hope Project group based in Victoria. These are some of the dresses and t-shirts that have actually been given to the school kids already.

Thank you to all the donors who made this distribution possible. Much appreciated.

Giving Tuesday - 2nd of December 2014

Last night I wrote in my facebook page about 'giving tuesday' which is on the 2nd of December. 2014. Giving tuesday is a global movement to celebrate a day of giving to kick off the giving season.

I have joined the 'giving tuesday' movement and have come up with this idea on how to celebrate it with Dress A Girl Australia especially  for Christmas and since I think I have a lot of time to sew this weekend. My idea of 'giing tuesday' is dress sponsorship with the proceeds from the sponsorship to be donated to the Dress A Girl Australia well campaign to provide clean water and hope to the people of Kalagi Uganda. The money that I have raised selling handmade items intended for the Dress A Girl well I have used to pay for the cost of sending dresses to different locations for Christmas distribution so I believe it is just right and fair that the proceeds of these sponsorships should go back to the Dress A Girl well fund. That is hitting two birds with one stone to make this world a better place. A dress and a well.
I will be sewing dresses for the next 3 days and some of these dresses will be posted here and in my facebook page. For $10.00 you get to give a dress including an undie, a mini teddy bear, a hair tie, a magic slate for perhaps the little girl to write her dreams, one lolly and a button that says 'am special'.. These dresses will be distributed in slum areas in the Philippines on Christmas day and make a little girl feel special perhaps for the first time. A picture will be taken of the girl who receives a christmas bag and sometime after christmas or January, will be forwarded to the donor of the package. I have chosen the Philippines as the location as I have a parcel that still have lots of space that I can use. I have not reached the minimum weight but need to pay the minimum cost so I decided to add these gift bags anyway it is Christmas. All the items in the bag were personally purchased by me and the fabrics from my personal collection. So especially for those who do not sew but wants to help make a difference to the lives of the less fortunate, this is a good opportunity. Watch out for the dresses that will be posted in a special album and please help spread the word around. It is Christmas. Thank you.

Advise on parcel packaging

Hi All, the packaging of one of the parcels I picked up from the postoffice today was totally torn in half. Not sure where it came from yet as I have not looked into it but the postoffice manager said that he closed up the parcel with a sticky tape. In fact he put the parcel in a box. He knew that the contents that fell out from the parcel was for me as they looked like dresses and soft toys. I am very glad I have establish a good rapport with the people working on this post office branch otherwise I am not sure what is going to happen with parcels like this. This is the second time it has happened. Can you please make sure that your parcels are packed well. I cannot be responsible for any items that get lost due to torn packaging. Thank you.

Status updates on Dresses, Shorts for Boys and T-shirts by Dress A Girl Australia

Scary thought! As of today, 2,994 dresses,736 pairs of shorts, 383 t-shirts, 105 quilts and 42 ready-to-sew kits have been given away by Dress A Girl Australia.....and still counting !!! Looks like I am more than going to meet the target I set in the beginning of the year of 3000 dresses of which 500 was targetted for India. As of today, I have sent 504 dresses to India and might be able to send another parcel of 32 once I have raised the needed funds. Please help spread the word about my Dress A Girl online shop. More items will be posted today (fabric trees, fabric hearts and houses, large-sized christmas stockings and gift sets) and a few items at heavily discounted prices to raise funds in order to send more dresses. Am a bit exhausted from all these activities but at the same time feeling elated just thinking of the 3,730+ kiddies around the world that owned a new dress, t-shirt and pair of shorts...that is 3,730+ smiles the world has seen this year. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Much appreciated!

Christmas (a season of giving and sharing) is just around the corner. Is everyone excited about it? If you have not started on anything yet, now is the time to make a difference to the world of disadvantaged kids. Share the spirit of Christmas especially to the less fortunate and give them love, hope and happiness!!!

Dress for today - 21-Nov-2014

Since Tuesday I have not been sewing a dress nor a pair of shorts as I was focusing on my fabric trees, houses and dress creations which can be used as a Christmas ornament (especially that we are less than 10 days away before the 1st day of December). I finished my packing of the first two of six parcels of dresses and christmas bags which I am scheduling for pickup on Sunday and was having a rest when I suddenly felt that something was not right with one of the boxes....and it was already sealed. I tried to ignore what I was thinking and in the end I opened the box again and I was right. It was missing one dress...another miscounting (when all I do is count and I still make mistakes....more mistakes in fact! LOL!).

Not knowing where to get an extra dress as other plastic bags contained what was written on top of it, I decided to make a dress this morning to make up for the missing one. It would be heartbreaking if there were 40 girls in the room and only 39 received new dresses and on a Christmas day. So here is the dress I made with fabric material donated by Linda Smyth - (am glad I have ready fabric materials, elastics and bias tapes to use anytime I want)
This dress will be included in the distribution to be made in the remote province of Sariaya Quezon Philippines sometime during the Christmas week by Edna Lisa Albufera and friends. Also to be included in their distributions will be a few colour pencils, exercise books, a couple of children's books and mini magic slates.

Now I can put my feet up and really feel comfortable having a rest.

Thank you !

There will be less and less postings on this page as the end of the year is fast approaching. Last 6 parcels for the last location(Philippines) will all be sent by the first week of December. Two more parcels to be sent this coming Sunday. Year 2015 plans will be published in two weeks time. This year has been very challenging especially towards the end of the year when I practically run out of money to spend for postage. My heartfelt thank you to all those who helped and provided financial assistance to support this wonderful cause and to everyone who bought items from my shop. Your support has helped raised funds that allowed me to distribute almost 650 dresses, 120 pairs of shorts/matching t-shirts and 107 Christmas bags for little kids and orphans this Christmas (each bag complete with a dress or a t-shirt/shorts set, undie and a small toy) and 6 dresses for pregnant women including 3 onesies for babies who will be born before Christmas). What a way to share the spirit of Christmas, love, happiness, hope to disadvantaged children around the world. Thank you so much. Your time, money and efforts will not be forgotten. Thank you.

Soft Toys for the Christmas Bags

Except for a few dresses, most of the christmas bags are packed but noticed during the packing that some bags were missing small toys (as most bags/donations came with toys or had been provided with one from previous donations). Since I had earned another flybuy points which when converted was equivalent to $10.00 and with a few dollars more from my pocket, I bought the following items to add to the Christmas bags -
The toys were added to the Christmas bags for the Morales Compound kids and the shirts were added to the kids of Sariaya Quezon. Both locations are in the Philippines. Hopefully, these toys will make the kids more happy this Christmas.

New Dress A Girl Australia Christmas card on Sale for fundraising

Finally I have thought of another Dress A Girl Australia christmas card and this time with an image of a dress that we make to provide dresses for disadvantaged children around the world to give and share them love, happiness and hope especially this Christmas.
Dresses on the cards could be different on any of the cards from what is shown above as dresses on the cards are made of actual fabric from fabric scraps and/or remnants from dresses made so they could be any fabric. Left inside panel has the image of Dress A Girl Australia's 'i-dress' verb and the right side panel is blank for personalized message. Comes with a matching white envelope for easy gift-giving and/or mailing.
Regular price of card is $2.50. This Christmas the cards are on sale at $2.00 per card plus actual postage cost of $.70 which is included in the selling price.

For a pack of 10, regular pack sells for $25.00. This Christmas, the pack of 10 are on sale at $15.00 per pack plus actual postage cost of $3.50.

To purchase a single card, please click here. To purchase a pack of 10, please click here.

Please check them out and if you like them please make a purchase. Proceeds of $2.70 (less stamp of 70 cents) can pay for the cost of sending one dress anywhere in the world. Thank you and please help spread the word around.

Parcel pickups and friendly reminder

Parcel pickups from the postoffice yesterday were from Heather Harris, Elizabeth Shoebridge and 12-year old Kylie Shepherd who made the dresses in the box every Wednesday for two terms and had a great time. Thank you Ladies and thank you Kylie.

Also, a friendly reminder to those who have committed to donating dresses. The end of November is fast approaching. Please make sure that your dresses are posted on or before the end of the month to make it to my postal box by the 1st of December. As you may be aware I do not get the chance to go to the postoffice everyday so if you want your dresses to be included in the last parcel of the year to be sent by the 6th of December, please take note of the deadline. Thank you.

Dresses for Today - 17 & 18-Nov-2014

When you are so used to being busy and suddenly you have nothing to do (especially in my case where my nights are spent doing tasks for Dress A Girl Australia) you start to ask 'what is happening?' 'What is happening to the world?'. 'Why am I not busy?'. LOL! The past few days all I have been doing aside from handmaking things to sell is wait for the dresses that have been committed to arrive so I can finish my sorting and packing. So I dont forget about Dress A Girl, I spare some time sewing dresses or pairs of shorts and here are the dresses I finished on the 17th (1x) and last night (4x).
When I am done with my sorting and packing for the year by the end of this month, I will be focusing on handmaking things to sell to continue my campaign for the Dress A Girl Australia well which I have neglected because the money I raised for this I have used to pay for the postage of dresses so it is time I go back and raise money for the well.

In order to keep this blog and my facebook page alive (until such time that I will go back to dresses which is sometime in March or April, December and January are my rest months both in collecting, sorting and spending money for postage and in February I will be travelling to the US for a holiday) I will be posting dresses and shorts that I will be sewing in preparation for next year's plans and handmade things that I also have made to sell.

I am not giving up on my campaign for a well and this is one of the reasons why I am putting a limit on the number of dresses that can be donated and strictly followed starting next year. Re-allocation of funds will not be in my dictionary this time until such time that I have completely raised the money to build a well. If you want to know more about my 'Dress A Girl Australia' well campaign, please click here. If you want to help and provide hope and clean water for the people of Kalagi Uganda, please click here to make a donation.

Don't forget that 'giving tuesday' is fast approaching. It will be on the 2nd of December when people all over the world try to help one another. This might be a good time to think if you want to help and donate to the "Dress A Girl Australia" well for the people of Kalagi Uganda. To make a donation, please click here.

Fundraising - Please help spread the word around!!!!

Please help spread the word around. For those who have not started their Christmas shopping yet, you may want to think about the items in my shops. They are all being sold to raise money and help disadvantaged children around the world. What better way to celebrate the season of giving by sharing it with these kids !!
I know a lot of you are handmakers but it would be great if you could also help spread the word about these handmade items to your friends and ask them to buy handmades and support small businesses especially those that make and sell to help disadvantaged kids around the world. It will be greatly appreciated.

All prices of items in my Dress A Girl Australia shop have been reduced for a desperate attempt to raise money for postage for more dresses to be distributed this Christmas. Click on the links below to view and if there is anything you like please make a purchase. -

More items are being added everyday so please drop by as often as you can especially before Christmas. Thank you.
